Help Jeffco Eats provide non-perishable food to families in our community facing financial challenges and food insecurity. We need up to 20 HEALTHY people every Friday to help with the following activities: • pack doubled grocery bags with 7-9 items; up to 700 per week • Set up tables that will be used for packing • Help move food we are packing from our storage room to the pack room • open packaging, break down boxes • vacuum floors and wipe tables before and after • Moving all empty bins down to the packing area • Rearrange food within our storage place • Repacking new bins back into the storage place that the packers packed that morning; up to 700 per week is packed • Unloading our 14-FT U-Haul truck that comes from the Food Bank of the Rockies every week with cases of non-perishable food; enough to pack 900 bags We encourage all ages and abilities to volunteer in the areas they feel most comfortable in. The max weight to lift or carry when unloading the truck or moving food is 50 pounds using lifting safety methods and equipment such as dollies and wagons. We meet every Friday at Lakewood United Methodist Church at 1390 Brentwood St, Lakewood, CO 80214 from 9a-11a. Parking is free and ample. Small groups and older children are welcome with an adult. We pack inside in a large room, but we observe social-distancing guidelines. **If you have had COVID exposure in the last FIVE DAYS, we ask that you stay home.** Please bring your own mask, or we will provide you with one! Gloves will be provided. Wear casual/comfy work clothes, closed-toed shoes are recommended. NOTE: Temperatures will be taken. Description Our mission is simple. We help kids and families eat by providing food over the weekends to insure that no child goes hungry in Jeffco Title One Schools, GAP schools, Section 8 apartments, rec centers, parks, and Head Start programs. We will never stop working towards this goal. The Need More than 30,000 children in Colorrado's Jefferson County receive subsidized meals at school, but sometimes find the cupboard bare at home. At some locations where we deliver food, half the children sometimes go hungry. Who we are: A mobile food pantry for 24 schools and section 8 apartments in Jefferson County weekly year-round, including in the summer. What we do: We Pack 300-500 from 9-11 as a group at 1390 Brentwood Street, Lakewood, CO 80214 We engage in a variety of tasks on Fridays that all contribute to us feeding hungry individuals: place up to 10 items of weekend food totes (300- 500 bags) to be distributed to schools and apartments, help move food that we are packing from pallets; open food packaging; break down boxes, cleaning, and food in preparation.
