Description
The Food Pantry at VEC serves about 700 families each week, primarily refugees and immigrants in northwest Aurora. Volunteers help pack hundreds of bags of dry goods or fresh produce, dairy & proteins. We also prepare bags of "hygiene supplies" such as soap, toothpaste, or diapers. Occasionally there is a need to lift heavy boxes of food but most of the time volunteers will sit or stand, handling lightweight food items.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are the busiest days, when we need about 5 volunteers each morning and afternoon. Shifts can be 2-4 hours and start/end time can be somewhat flexible, between 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Mondays & Fridays we are cleaning, organizing, and taking inventory, with only 1-2 volunteers needed.
This is a great opportunity for individuals or small groups. Larger groups should arrange a day/time with the Volunteer Coordinator, Vestine Niyonkuru. Contact: vestine@villageexchangecenter.org or call 720-668-9968. VEC occasionally has other volunteer opportunities at our urban farm, with our youth programs, or vaccine clinics. If interested, please inquire.
